The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team defeated Temple Holy Trinity 73-33 Jan. 5 in the District 3-3A opener of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.

“Major credit to our kids,” head coach Zakk Revelle said. “Just like the Big 12, conference games are hard to win. Everyone knows each other better. All the coaches have gotten film to this point.”

Though the score was lopsided, Revelle noted the Celtics forced some turnovers. Still, he credited his players for playing to the program’s standards.

“They kept stringing together stops,” he said. “I thought we did a good job getting transition baskets. Our goal was to get everyone involved early. In a game like that with scores like that, we wanted to get guys working who don’t play much to get them some reps.”

Faith senior guard Gabe Lopez, freshman guard Will Slyker, junior guard Asher Apel and sophomore center Judah Phillips all scored in the double figures, Revelle said.

“It was a very good team effort,” he said. “It’s always nice when the wealth is shared. it was a good sign going forward.”

The contest was the Flames’ first in about a week, their 15th this season, and they didn’t show any rust.

“They did a really good job of stringing together good practices and taking it day by day,” Revelle said.

Faith travels to Temple Central Texas Christian Tuesday, Jan. 9, with the junior varsity playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity takes the court at 7:30 p.m. It’s the program’s only game of the week before playing four games in eight days the week of Jan. 16-23, all at home.

Revelle noted that’s why he created the schedule the way he did where the Flames had multiple games with little rest in between.

“That’s why you go to those tournaments,” he said. “It’s not anything that’s unusual for us. I’m excited to watch, especially since we’ve strung some good practices together. I’m excited to see it. We focus on one day at a time to go 1-0 every day.”
